August 2019:
Temporary tunnel retaining structure A7 Virngrundtunnel

The Virngrundtunnel on motorway A7 near Ellwangen will be renovated and retrofitted within a period of 14 months. The tunnel renovation concept of the regional council in Stuttgart includes the renovation of the entire concrete inner shell as well as the retrofit of the operational equipment. The clean-up operations can only be executed with a total blocking of the respective tunnel tube. In this time traffic will be processed single-lane in one tunnel tube with two-way traffic. During the blocking of the tunnel tubes the allowed maximum speed will be limited to 60 or respectively 80 kilometers per hour.

Green Way Systems has installed a system for this project, consisting of a temporary tunnel retaining structure and mobile traffic jam warning systems in both driving directions. This system will be operated by Green Way Systems until the end of the construction period. It is possible with this system to renovate the tunnel during running traffic. The traffic interferences will be reduced as far as possible. In sum following components will be used for the tunnel retaining structure and the mobile traffic jam warning systems with combined speed funnel: 49 variable message signs in LED technology with equivalent control and energy cabinets, 6 detection locations with radar technology for detection and evaluation of all lanes as well as 6 traffic lights on cantilever posts.

Though a special challenge is the realization of the closure of the tunnel as “tunnel reflex” at fire or line-of-sight obstruction according to the guidelines for setup and operation of road tunnels (RABT). A further special feature is the full integration of the system into the road traffic center of German state Baden-Württemberg.

Dynamic rerouting display system and temporary traffic jam warning systems B10 Godramstein
On behalf of the federal state authority „Landesbetrieb Mobilität“ Rhineland-Palatinate Green Way Systems installed several temporary traffic jam warning systems and a dynamic rerouting display system, collaterally to the 4-lane extension of the state road B10 between Godramstein and the motorway A65 near Landau. The systems will be operated likely until October 2019.

Four temporary traffic jam warning systems with a total of 13 display locations and 7 detection cross sections were installed on the neighbouring motorway A65. Eight additional display locations with LED-RGB full matrix signs inform long-range ahead of the construction site about the interference and the rerouting options.

All system components are operated energy self-sufficient via solar energy plants with battery buffering.
